Module 1: 1.5.2 Defensive Driving
- 1.5.2 A Defensive Driver Expects the Unexpected Situations
-
A defensive driver will never assume that the other driver will drive his vehicle in the correct order. Instead, they can foresee any unexpected conditions and hazards by scanning the roads and the traffic situation.
By doing this, they enable themselves to prepare for the upcoming dangers and react appropriately. Defensive drivers also ensure the proper maintenance of their vehicles, and they always wear their seat belts.
A Defensive Driver is Alert of their Surroundings
As a defensive driver, you should look forward to developing the habit of being alert about traffic conditions. This is important because your altered mental and physical health can affect your driving behaviour and alert levels. Therefore, focus on the traffic coming from your front, sides, and rear. It would help if you also learned to use your side mirrors and rear mirrors correctly because they will aid you in enhancing your overall alertness levels.
