BDTAS Special Assessment for Instructors

BDTAS Instructor Assessment

You can take the voluntary Barbados Driver Training Advisory Services (BDTAS) special assessment if you’re a driving instructor (ADI) or a motorcycle instructor.

The BDTAS special assessment will test your skills to the highest standard.

Taking the BDTAS special assessment shows your commitment to continuing professional development.

Who can take the assessment

You can take the assessment if you’re one of the following types of fully qualified instructor:

  • an ADI
  • a direct access scheme trainer

You can’t take the BDTAS special assessment if you are not an instructor.

Where you can take the test

You can take the assessment at the BDTAS training and development centre.

Booking the test

To book the special assessment complete the appropriate application form and send it to BDTAS.

You’ll need to include the fee of:

  • $183.00 for the ADI assessment

What to bring to your assessment

You should bring your:

  • driving licence
  • ADI certificate

You must also bring either:

  • a manual or automatic car – you can use an adapted car if you have a disability

What happens when you take the

assessment

The assessment lasts up to 1 hour 30 minutes. It includes:

  • an eyesight check
  • general driving
  • manoeuvres
  • ability to teach

Your assessment results

At the end of the assessment you’ll get:

  • a grade from A to D
  • feedback on any faults you made

Grade

Number of faults allowed

Grade A

Between 0 and 3 faults

Grade B

Between 4 and 6 faults

Grade C

Between 7 and 15 faults

Grade D

More than 15 faults or a serious fault
