Module 1: 1.3.7 Factors that Lead to RTCs
1.3.7 Inadequate Post-Trauma Care & RTA-Related Deaths
Many people who get involved in road crashes do not die because of a car crash directly. Instead, they lose their lives either because of inadequate or late provision of medical care. Therefore, an important thing to be mentioned regarding the post-trauma care of these patients is that they need multi-disciplinary treatment. For this purpose, a single alert system can be incorporated for assisting the first-responders in providing treatment to the crash victims. The components that are part of the initial protocol of treatment after a Road Traffic Accident are:
-
- Triage training
- Pre-hospital treatment, and
- Adequate hospital care and patient management
- In terms of post-crash care, the authorities can take the following steps:
- Mental health evaluation to cope with PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder)
- Rehabilitation
- Trauma care
- Monitoring and evaluation, etc.
